SENOLITH^® UV FP lacquers by WEILBURGER Graphics - now even safer to use

Gerhardshofen, 26 October 2009  – In order to make UV lacquers even safer for use in production for the food industry, as of now WEILBURGER Graphics GmbH is colouring them with a special green dye that is safe for food packaging. This also sets the varnishes in the SENOLITH^® UV FP series by WEILBURGER Graphics apart for production staff in the print room, and makes it easier for them to distinguish between them. It rules out any risk of confusion with varnishes that are not suitable for food use.

Arno Dürr, sales manager at WEILBURGER Graphics, on this topic: "Our SENOLITH^® UV FP lacquers have been specially developed from the outset on the basis of high quality low-migration photo initiators instead of benzophenone and 4-methyl-benzophenone, which makes them ideal for use in food packaging. By colouring our varnishes, we wanted to add a further safety level in the use of these products and rule out any possibility of confusion with other products in the print room. We have set the concentration of the dye so that the apparent green hue of the container, which is used for visual differentiation between the varnishes, has no effect whatsoever on the print results, nor will it cause any colour distortions."

Arno Dürr continues: "To further safeguard the consumer, we do everything we can to make the use of UV curing inks and lacquers in the production of food packaging as safe as possible. The modification of our products has brought us another step closer to this aim."

In general, the raw components used in the SENOLITH^® WB and SENOLITH® UV varnish preparations meet the requirements of the European Inventory of Existing Commercial Chemical Substances (EINECS), the EuPIA exclusion list for printing inks and corresponding products, and REACH regulation 1907/2006. None of the coatings and varnishes available from WEILBURGER Graphics GmbH contain any heavy metals, toxic components or substances of very high concern (SVHC) as per 1907/2006 EG.
